In India, the Government has established mechanisms to make reporting cybercrime more accessible and to enable law-enforcement agencies and financial institutions to respond more quickly.
The National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), operated under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), allows individuals to report cybercrime incidents online. What Is the NCRP?

Filing a Complaint Through the NCRP
When submitting a complaint, victims should keep essential information ready. The NCRP asks complainants to provide details such as the incident date and time, a description of the incident, identification documents and relevant evidence. For financial fraud, the bank or wallet details, transaction ID or UTR number, transaction date and fraud amount are particularly important.
The complainant can select the relevant category of cybercrime, provide the incident details, upload supporting documents and submit the complaint. The portal also provides a Report & Track facility through which complainants can monitor their complaint.
What Happens After Reporting?
Once a complaint is submitted, it is forwarded to the appropriate law-enforcement authority for examination and further action. In financial-fraud cases, the CFCFRMS mechanism facilitates coordination between law enforcement agencies and banks, financial institutions and payment intermediaries.
Where fraudulent funds can still be traced or blocked, timely reporting may assist authorities and financial institutions in preventing further movement of the money. However, reporting a fraud does not guarantee recovery of the amount, and the outcome depends on the facts of the case, the movement of funds and subsequent investigation.

Where a complaint registered through the NCRP does not receive an appropriate response, the portal provides details of State/UT Nodal Officers and Grievance Officers who may be contacted.
